Plantar Warts

Plantar Warts

At Footpoint Podiatry, plantar warts are one of the most common skin complaints our patients present to the clinic with. Caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), plantar warts have a range of presentations from single site lesions to mosaic lesions (multiple warts). HPV virus is a common element in the environment though we have antibodies for many of the strands you may be exposed to. Unfortunately, areas like swimming pools, public shower facilities and even the garden are high risk areas. This is because they are moist and warm environments which allow microorganisms to thrive.

Children seem to be more susceptible to warts than adults, but they can occur at any point during a person’s life time. A plantar wart often presents on the sole of the foot in weight bearing areas. They are predominantly covered with a calloused hard surface (hard skin), have well defined boundaries and a ‘cauliflower like appearance’.

The Footpoint Podiatry Team can assist in the correct diagnosis and treatment of a wart. We offer a range of treatment options including debridement of the affected area, silver nitrate application, salicylic acid, potassium hydroxide crystals and Spirularin VS wart cream.

Spirularin VS Wart Cream

Based on the ingredient Spiralin, Spirularin products involve a unique extract of microalgae with antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The German products were developed in collaboration with leading dermatologists and podiatrists and are now available at Footpoint Podiatry.

The natural glucose molecules contained in Spiralin cover healthy human cells with a protective film, preventing bacteria, fungi and viruses from entering. Furthermore, Spiralin was proven to improve cell regeneration. Natural moisturisers act to nourish and hydrate skin, while the Spiralin protects against infections.

Due to painless topical application of natural ingredients to targeted areas without side effects, the Spirularin range is ideal for people with low immune systems, such as young children, the elderly and diabetes sufferers.

Call The Footpoint podiatry Team today if you or your little ones are suffering from plantar warts.
