Prolotherapy

Prolotherapy is a combination of Local Anaesthetic and Glucose, which is used to stimulate healing of joints, ligaments and tendons. The aim of this treatment is to repair connective tissue by creating a brief inflammatory response. This Inflammatory response kick starts a healing pathway for chronic connective tissue injuries.

Since most orthopedic injuries involve damage to the ligaments, tendons, and cartilage, a great majority of musculoskeletal injuries can be treated with Prolotherapy. Bursitis, tendonitis, sprains, strains, will most likely improve and potentially be resolved with Prolotherapy.

Common conditions treated include:

  • Bursitis
  • Achilles Tendonitis
  • Ankle sprains
  • Mid-tarsal Joint Arthritis
  • Knee Pain / Arthritis
  • Neuroma
  • Plantar Fasciitis
  • Postier Tibial Dysfunction
  • Hallux Valgus (Bunions)

Multiple injections are generally required, with the most common treatment plan for feet and ankles being 3-4 sessions fortnightly. We then have a 1 month break and re-assess as needed.

Treatment plans for knees can vary, at times needing up to 6 initial sessions fortnightly and ongoing maintenance.

Your Footpoint podiatrist will guide you through your treatment plan and make any other recommendations required in combination to ensure your best result is achieved.
