Fracture Management

The Footpoint Podiatry team can help with fracture management by assessing the injury, confirming the diagnosis with imaging like X-rays, Ultrasounds and MRI’s and providing a comprehensive treatment plan that includes immobilisation with post op shoes and walking boots for pain management, and rehabilitation exercises to restore strength and mobility.

Even if you suspect ‘it’s just a broken toe’, it’s best to come in for an assessment and put together a treatment to prevent complications. Your podiatrist can refer for an x-ray to determine the type and exact location of the fracture. The X-ray will also establish if the fracture is displaced or non-displaced, which does help determine the best course of treatment.

lnitially immobilising the joints is undertaken to speed up the healing process and ensure proper alignment, it’s also important that this occurs in combination with gentle stretches and exercises to maintain range of movement and minimise swelling. To start with this may involve passive exercises, progressing on to more active exercises as your fracture heals. The Footpoint Podiatry Team will tailor your treatment plan to your needs.
